Hernia is an abnormal exit of tissue or an organ which resides through the wall of the cavity usually occurs in abdominal area. A Hernia occurs when the division of a body cavity bulges out of the area where they normally accommodate. These divisions usually are the portions of intestine or abdominal fatty tissues which are enclosed in the thin membrane that naturally lines inside the cavity.
There are different types of Hernias such as Inguinal hernias, Femoral hernia, Obturator hernias, Epigastric hernias, Umbilical hernias, Spigelian hernias and Incisional hernias and Hiatal hernia.Symptoms
Hernias may be asymptomatic which produce no symptoms or cause slight to severe pain. Common symptoms include a bulge, swelling or pain in the abdomen, pelvis or testicle. Hernia may also cause abdominal discomfort, abdominal distension, groin discomfort or tenderness.
Other common symptoms include:
1.Weakness, pressure, or a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen
2.Burning, gurgling, or aching sensation at the place of the bulge
5.Difficulty in swallowing
Depends on the size of Hernia and the severity of the symptoms the treatment differs. Treatment options for a hernia patient include both surgical and non surgical techniques. Non surgical methods include lifestyle changes and medications. Consulting doctor on time may provide the patient not falling onto possible complications.
Avoid large or heavy meals, don’t lie down after meals and keep your body weight in a healthy range. Certain exercises may help in strengthen the muscles around the hernia.

Laparoscopic surgery for hernia is done by using an instrument called a laparoscope. Incisions are made through the abdominal wall through which laparoscope and surgical instruments are passed. The incisions are small and the whole technique is called as keyhole surgery.
