One of the major aspect in deciding the treatment for IBS is knowing the factors that trigger the onset of symptoms. Because of the influence life style and food habits has on IBS symptoms, making dietary changes is considered to be effective in controlling the extent of pain and other discomforts in the patients.
Healthy eating than a strict diet control is fruitful as there are other factors contributing to the symptoms. Food rich in carbohydrates and protein, limited saturated fats and sugar, soy milk and dairy products (avoid milk and milk products if you are lactose intolerant) and plenty of fluid are recommendable. Avoiding the intake of carbonated drinks, alcohol, vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli will help in eliminating bloating.
Regular meal pattern, and exercises, not skipping the meals, properly chewing the food etc., will help in reducing the symptoms to a certain extent.
De-stress by relaxation therapies, yoga/meditation, listening to soothing music, enough sleep, fun time with friends and families will also be helpful.
