Not all patients with IBS symptoms seek medical advice as most of them are unaware of the symptoms of the disease. IBS accounts for up to 12% of total visits to primary care physicians.
Psychiatrist assisted therapies are effective especially for patients having depression , anxiety or any other mood disorder. Lets take a glance at what stats say:
1. Approximately 20 – 40% of all visits to gastroenterologists are due to IBS symptoms.
2. Only about 30% of people with symptoms of IBS seek medical care.
3. Data reveals an increased risk of unnecessary surgery for extra-abdominal and abdominal surgery in IBS patients
4.4 out of 10 people with IBS had symptoms for 5 years or more before being diagnosed.
