A Global Health Emergency- Novel Coronavirus infection.

A recent virus being known as the 2019 Novel Coronavirus(2019-nCoV) has been recognized as the cause of a respiratory illness outbreak first identified in China. This is one type of coronavirus, which is a family of viruses that involves respiratory illnesses like the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)


Since the virus is new, there is not much awareness about it yet. Global public health groups are still investigating, this virus seems to be spreading rapidly from person-to-person. The spreading may occur by respiratory droplets when someone coughs or sneezes. The research on this virus still ongoing, so it is still not clear how exactly it spreads or how contagious it is.



The symptoms of this new virus could be mild to severe and include a fever, cough and shortness of breath. They may become visible 2-14 days after the first exposure, and currently there is no proper vaccine available for this coronavirus. WHO and CDC suggest people to take general precautions to help prevent the spread of this respiratory virus.

How to Prevent Yourself

At present, there are no vaccines available to protect you against this virus infection. But, you can still bring down the risk of infection by following the below precautionary steps:

1.Clean your hands frequently with soap and water for minimum 20 seconds

2.Don’t touch your nose, mouth or eyes with unclean hands

3.Avoid near contact with people who are affected.

4.Ensure your mouth and nose is covered with your elbow or tissue while you cough or sneeze.

5.After the work stay at home.

How to Prevent Others

1.If you have any symptoms like cold or cough, you can help prevent others by following the below steps:

2.When you are sick, stay home and take rest.

3.Avoid near contact with others

4.Ensure your mouth and nose is covered with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then put the tissue in the trash and clean your hands.

5.Keep objects and surfaces clean and disinfect.


There are still no particular treatments for the coronavirus caused illness. Majority of the people affected by this common human coronavirus illness will recover on their own. Anyhow, you can take actions to relieve your symptoms.

1.Take medications for pain and fever.(Caution: do not provide Aspirin to children)

2.Take a hot shower to ease down a sore throat and cough
